M8 Greyhound

Roberto Flores (ESP)

kit: Italeri

Scale: 1/35

This 1/35 scale kit is made by Italeri, ref. 364. I have added the Eduard photo-etched set ref. 35218, quite nice in order to exchange the light guards, pedal, some brackets, ammo supports at the turret interior, etc. But also, I have enjoyed it doing a hard scratchbuilt (at least for me!) work, modifying the turret basket to add the numbers around the ring (printed over decal sheet (from Super Scale International) and done with Freehand program), the gunner one-speed traverse, and many other "small" items at the driver and co-driver areas with wire and Plastruc sheets. Also, take notice that the frontal axle has been also modified in order to steer the wheels, as folded the antenna, etc.

The equipment and gear come from Verlinden, Italeri, Tamiya, Academy, etc. The fluorescent identification panel has been scratchbuild with aluminium foil, then primed with Tamiya Putty, Humbrol enamel matt white, and sprayed with Vallejo fluorescent orange. The size is that provided by Steve Zaloga in "Military Modelling" vol. 32, No.1, 2002.

It was painted with acrylics for the base coats, Tamiya, and then washes and filters were applied with Vallejo and other paints. The weathering was done with MIG pigments, then applying several drops of Humbrol enamel thinner, and a coat of Vallejo Air Model matt varnish. And again, more MIG pigments. It depicts "Mademoiselle Swing", a M8 Greyhound from "les Spahis" (RMSM) of 2éme Division Blindée, Free French Forces, commanded by general Leclerc, during the campaign at the ETO, from Normandy to the Liberation of Paris.

I hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I did!!

In my opinion, a really good kit, with some faults, but very affordable, and nice to build!!

I would like to express my gratitude to my friends and also great modellers, José F. Erice and J.J. Aos, who took the pics. "
