Augusta A129 Mangusta
scale 1/72

By
Alberto Borzellino

As I needed some rest after the debilitating job of the Crusader, I just wanted to make a small and unpretentious model: here we have the “Mangusta”! As a “pro-Italian” I could not help but making the “Mangusta” The Italeri kit is decent and sufficiently represents the last helicopter gunship issued to the AVES ( Air Force of the Army ). I had the opportunity to go through a good deal of documentation regarding the various tests carried out using many versions of the “chopper”: with and without turret, with and without guns, with “shielded” turbines exhausts and… I bought the kit and I mounted it straight from he box. The only problem I had to solve was that I had to use a bit of putty for the engine nacelles. Furthermore, I added some electric wires to the TOW missile launchers, but I didn’t mount the rocket launchers because they made the Mangusta look like a “Cobra.” Green and 34087 Gunze seemed to me similar enough to the real green-olive-brown. Decals from the box, a shade of matt and…here it is, the “Mangusta” on exhibit in 6 days !
